Custom Built-Ins in St. Petersburg & Tampa Bay
J Fox LLC designs and builds custom built-ins across St. Petersburg and Tampa Bay — bookcases, entertainment walls, window seats, and home-office built-ins designed for your exact space, matched to your existing trim and proportions so each piece looks original to the home, not added on.
What It Is
Built-ins designed for your space — and your home's style.
A good built-in solves a problem: awkward dead space, not enough storage, a room that never quite feels finished. A great built-in does it while looking like it was part of the original house. That's our focus.
We design each piece around your room's proportions and detailing, then match the trim, profiles, and finish so it reads as architecture, not furniture. Built from full 3/4" cabinet-grade plywood with real joinery — not the particle board that swells and sags in Gulf-coast humidity — our built-ins are made to fit your exact space and to last. That's the difference between "nice shelves" and a piece that looks like the architect drew it in.
What We Build
Custom built-ins for every room.
We also build dining and bar built-ins, wet bars, display cabinetry, and floor-to-ceiling bookcases — if you can picture it for the space, we can design and build it.

Our Signature
Built-ins that look original to the home.
Built-ins are the clearest test of a finish carpenter: the piece either disappears into the room or it doesn't. Our signature is making it disappear — matching existing trim, profiles, and proportions so a new built-in feels like it was always there.
That means reading the room's detailing, replicating trim where needed, and sizing the piece to the architecture rather than forcing a stock unit into the space. In older St. Pete and Tampa homes especially, it's the difference between a built-in that belongs and one that looks bolted on.

Common Questions
Custom built-ins FAQ.
-
Cost depends on size, materials, and detail. Most built-in projects start around $1,500; a single painted bookcase typically lands in the low thousands, while a full fireplace or media wall with cabinetry, paneling, and lighting runs more. We give a clear written estimate after seeing the space.
-
Many built-ins are completed in 1–7 days on site, depending on scope and finish — a window seat is quicker than a full media wall with paneled surround. Casework is largely pre-built in the shop, so your room is disrupted for days, not weeks. We give a realistic timeline with your estimate.
-
Yes — matching existing molding, profiles, and finish so the piece looks original is our specialty. We replicate profiles that are no longer sold, carry your baseboard and crown through the piece, and match paint or stain to the room's existing woodwork before install.
-
Yes. Bungalows and historic homes — Old Northeast, Historic Kenwood, Snell Isle — are where matching original detail matters most, and where we do some of our best work. Out-of-square walls and plaster are normal in these houses; we scribe every piece to the room.
-
Yes — symmetrical built-ins flanking a fireplace, with a paneled surround, are one of our most-requested projects. We size the flanking cabinetry to the room, respect clearances around the firebox, and tie the surround into your existing trim so the whole wall reads as one piece.
-
Built-ins fit your exact space, add real storage, look custom, and can help a home show better at resale — where furniture is temporary and rarely fits as cleanly.
